ROHS
Advantech Commits to Comply with RoHS Directive To Contribute to the Preservation of the Global Environment

Advantech has continued to pursue its social responsibility for global environmental preservation by committing to compliance to the European Union's policy: "Restriction on Use of Hazardous Substance in Electrical and Electronic Equipment," or, "RoHS". This new directive was effective after July 1, 2006. Advantech promises to protect the environment and put our policy into practice. The satisfaction of all interested groups and the environments are our top priority. To comply with RoHS, Advantech intends to restrict the use of Lead (Pb), Mercury (Hg), Cadmium (Cd), Hexavalent Chromium (Cr6+), Polybrominated biphenyls (PBB), and Polybrominated diphenyl Ethers (PBDE).
  Advantech's lead free transition roadmap includes 3 phases:

Phase I - purchase Pb-free equipment and distinguish lead-free part numbers, between Oct/04-Feb/05;

Phase II - adjust & define production conditions and project pilot-runs, between Mar/05-Jun/05;

Phase III - key supplier phase-in & ready for ordering (by request), by Jul/05.

Advantech's effort to ensure environmental protection was also recognized by Sony Corporation. Advantech was certified as a Sony "Green Partner" in 2004. Advantech will continue to work proactively with industry peers and suppliers to clarify standards and identify compatible technologies and processes that help reduce hazardous substances in its manufacturing processes and products. It will be essential for Advantech's suppliers and manufacturers to understand and be compliant to the RoHS Directive. Advantech will also build up a "Green Supply Chain Platform" for supply chain management to ensure that all suppliers meet the qualifications.

WEEE
Advantech Commits to Comply with the WEEE Directive To Contribute to the Preservation of the Global Environment
  Advantech, the global ePlatform Service Provider, pursues its social responsibility for global environmental preservation by committing to compliance with European Union "Restrictions on Use of Hazardous W aste E lectrical and E lectronic E quipment" or the "WEEE Directive¡± before Dec.31, 2006. Advantech's efforts towards environmental protection have been recognized by Sony; Advantech was certified as a Sony ¡°Green Partner¡± in 2005.

Advantech promises to protect our environment and we have written that commitment into our policy. The satisfaction of all interested groups and the environment are our top priorities. To comply with WEEE, Advantech's first priority is to prevent the waste of all electrical and electronic equipment through reuse, recycling and other forms of recovery. The aim is to reduce and even eliminate the disposal of waste electrical products and materials. The WEEE directive also seeks to improve the environmental performance of all operators involved in the entire life cycle of electrical and electronic equipment, including producers, distributors and consumers, and in particular those operators directly involved in the treatment of waste electrical and electronics equipment.

  Advantech's Implementation for the WEEE roadmap includes 4 phases:

Phase I - Ensure products are correctly labeled to ensure reuse and recycling after Aug.13, 2005;

Phase II - Register as a producer with one of the agencies listed. See http://www.weee-forum.org, before Dec.31, 2005;

Phase III - Declare our sales data to the relevant authorities for the purpose of calculating market share and prepare data on what has been recycled by us or by a competent body;

Phase IV - Pay our share of treatment and recycling costs for separately collected items.

  Advantech will work proactively with industry peers and suppliers to clarify standards and identify compatible technologies and processes to reduce "environmental impact" in its manufacturing processes and products. It will be essential for Advantech's customers to understand and be compliant with the WEEE Directive. Advantech plans to continue working on the WEEE directive to ensure efficient customer cooperation to recover, collect and supply environmentally sound treatment of all Advantech products.

When determining which materials to purchase, Advantech's major consideration is the degree to which the product in question reduces environmental impact, and whether or not the companies are engaged in manufacturing and marketing their products are taking an active stance towards environmental conservation. Advantech and our customers should demonstrate their responsibilities as follows:

We shall stay abreast of market trends and increase our sensitivity to the marketplace through close contacts with customers and industries at large.

We shall seek out the best benchmarking practices to supply the world's finest products and services.

We shall strengthen our corporate ability to provide customer value and shall reconsider all aspects of our operations from the customer viewpoint

Before purchasing products, customers must ask factories to obey national environmental laws and regulations, like WEEE

Customers must check the quality grade of each device before using it in a particular application.

When a product reaches the end of its life, customers should process the product through the recycle scheme that each nation or company has established.
